Transport - Getting around London

London is served by an extensive transport route. Most people use the conventions Bus, Tube, Dockland Light Railways or Train systems. River boat services are also available for those travelling within the city

Tube:
The London Underground, or ‘the Tube’ as it is universally known to Londoners, is normally the quickest and easiest way of getting around London with 275 stations conveniently dotted across the city (63 in central London), you are never far from a Tube station. Most people in London use the Tube.’
Each line has its own unique colour, so you can easily follow them on maps and signs throughout the system.

Bus:
London Buses manages bus services in London. It plans routes, specifies service levels and monitors service quality. It is also responsible for bus stations, bus stops and other support services.
Every weekday over 6,800 scheduled buses carry around six million passengers on over 700 different routes. The bus services are operated by private operators, which work under contract to London Buses.
London's bus network is one of the largest and most comprehensive urban transport systems in the world. Every weekday over 6,800 scheduled buses carry around six million passengers on over 700 different routes.

Trains:
London Rail, was established in 2003 to focus on investment in London’s Railways to raise standards across the network and to develop a more integrated approach to rail governance for London.
Trains provide a new opportunity to deliver higher standards and services for London’s rail users to similar standards experienced on buses, light rail and London Underground, and better integration between the different transport modes.

DLR:
Light rail uses the latest technology. Trains can run as single units, in articulated, or linked units, on tracks set beside or in the middle of streets or on their own private right of way. A standard light rail vehicle can carry up to 250 people - nearly treble the capacity of a typical bus. The vehicles are accessible to all: parents with prams and small children, shoppers with trolleys, and the elderly or mobility impaired.
Compared with conventional trains, there can be more frequent stops, seldom more than 600 metres apart. With segregated tracks, there are no traffic jams, and the service is safe and reliable.
